IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!! TWO NEW PIECES!!

Saturday, November 29, 2008 Edit This 25 Comments »

These are both 18 x 18 on stretched canvas --not very good photos of either, as it is raining and cloudy outside. I did these last night, and really enjoyed working so large--it's so liberating.
Well, it's my birthday--and I am off to the Artist Market this morning!! Have a great day!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING !!-- ARGHHHHHHH..8 MORE DAYS!!!

Wednesday, November 26, 2008 Edit This 4 Comments »

I am running crazy!! I got accepted in the Gallery Tour, and realized that I probably don't have enough stuff for it...so, I am running around like a chicken with my head cut off!! I have decided on making bookmarks, handpainted glass ornaments, some paper clay ornaments, plus all of my usual painting stuff...and I have 8 days to get it done. I have already got an altered art doll in the making, and luckily, I have several Paper Clay pieces near completion..I feel like I am on a pyscho episode of "Survivor", and it's an arts and craft special!!

I figure that I need items from $5 - 100 dollars, with most items falling in the $20- $25 range, and that should be good. I have to buy gift bags, sweets for my table, and get my little Christmas tree out, and work on it...I need help!! I will give free lessons for life to anyone willing to come spend a week with me...hehehehe. Saturday, when I set up at the Artist's Market, I will measure my spot, and then come home and reconstruct the space allowed in my living room, and set everything up just like it'll look for the gallery tour. Down to the tissue paper and box placement. This makes things run so much more smoothly when it comes to actually setting up. I also have to get a money box, and some change.
Yesterday, I took 6 large paintings (16 x 20, 18 x 36, and a 9 x 12), 16 art journal pages (to be matted), and 15 small older paintings to the frame shop to get framed, and made presentable. I don't even want to think about that bill!! I have needed to do this for a while, and if they don't sell, then I am gallery ready, and maybe next week, I will decide where I want to put these pieces. (I can't keep lugging the larger pieces around, it's not good for them!).
Also yesterday, I got all the meat cooked for tomorrow, and today I am going to finish the rest of the meal off. (This isn't a huge feat, since it's only me and my husband..LOL)..maybe SHE WHO KNOWS EVERYTHING (my wonderful nursey daughter, who I miss and love) and her boyfriend will come over and hang out a bit. If so, there's plenty of traditional food to eat..
I HOPE you all have a wonderful, happy, safe Thanksgiving!! I also hope that you can find something every day to be grateful for.
Note: 3 more days until I turn 44!!

A NEW PIECE AND ACCEPTANCE IN GALLERY CHRISTMAS SHOW!!

Monday, November 24, 2008 Edit This 7 Comments »
Hello!! Today, I got a phone call from the ladies that run the Artist Market, and they have juried me into their Christmas Gallery Tour. I am so shocked and happy about it!! I didn't think I would make the cut, but I did, and they also assigned me my favorite spot (which I didn't even ask for!)..I would have set up in the parking lot for this opportunity, but happily, I get to sit up inside where it's warm. So, now, I have to get some work going. SOON.

The Gallery Tour is a Huntsville event is where a lot of galleries open their doors, and people drive from gallery to the next. I imagine that most of them serve wine, food, cookies, etc. I am overly excited about being a part of it, and my mind is racing. (Good thing that I got in an order of canvases today!! I can't wait to do some 18 x 18's, and some 10 x 20's!) Anyway....

This is a piece that I did tonight. I have mixed feelings about it. I think I was trying too hard, and the LALALALA never happened. It was mentally straining for me, but I had to do something...LOL. So this is it...Back to the Art room!!

THIS LITTLE PIGGY ...

Monday, November 17, 2008 Edit This 11 Comments »

Available on Etsy--$20
Hoo Boy! I am absolutely brain dead...do you ever stare at something all day, and just don't know what to do. I have A LOT of ideas, but none of them are manifesting themselves. It has turned COLD here, and my past life (that of a bear) is telling me it's time to hibernate..I literally want to burrow into a pile of comforters and quilts, and sleep until March. (Doesn't hurt to dream, does it?)

Anyway--I got this mixed media piece finished. It's an 8 x 10 on a canvas panel. I really like the way it turned out.

I sold my wares at the Artist Market this past weekend, and only sold two pieces. The cool thing about the sales were the fact that a 12 year old boy bought them with his allowance. I thought that was really unique!! Well, that's about all. Time to retreat under those quilts now.

CIGAR BOX PAPER DOLL ASSEMBLAGE !!

Sunday, November 16, 2008 Edit This 5 Comments »

Well...today, I did something a little bit different, and made this cigar box assemblage. The whole thing measures 6 x 10 inches (including the wooden "legs") It has a paper doll named "Sue" on the front, butterflies flying on the inside, and the word PLAY. I covered the whole box, inside and outside with different pages, then whitewashed it and "antiqued" it. It was a lot of fun, and extremely relaxing!!! It's for sale on my Etsy store.

PICTURE RETAKE AND 4 LITTLE THINGS...

Friday, November 14, 2008 Edit This 5 Comments »

Good Happy Morning!! This is a picture retake of the large one, and 4 other little (6 x 6 on Clayboard) that I did last night, while taking breaks from having my butt kicked by the big painting. I couldn't get them to scan in the true colors, so had to wait until I could get outside this morning.
It's wet and foggy today. The kind of weather that just makes your bones ache. I love cold weather, and I love wet weather, but not mixed...so, I guess it's a good thing--I have a ton of stuff to do before I head out to the Flying Monkey to sell tomorrow morning. I have to be careful too, because I have to pack up all the beeswax covered goodies, and I am sure that I have to be careful, or they will stick together.
I also will spend a large portion of today scrapping wax off of things, since I made a huge mess last night. I am going to have to set up an area just for beeswax...LOL..maybe I should make another studio in my formal dining room...LOL..since we never eat in there anyway, and it's been our storage room for 5 years.
Anyway..off to do some work..got to list on Etsy before I do anything.
Hugs!!

RODEO TO PARIS --3 WEEKS OF BLOOD, SWEAT, AND TEARS...HUGE PAINTING!!

Thursday, November 13, 2008 Edit This 8 Comments »
Whew... This is possibly my absolute best painting yet. (the picture is wrong--will retake again in the sunlight). I have worked on this, and worked on this, let it sit across from me, and painted over parts until I wanted to scream. Tonight, I was simply going to finish it, or burn it, and frankly I was to the point that I didn't care which. It was driving me insane, and so tonight, I said a quiet prayer, and it worked. It worked when I had this super bright painting, and I completely covered it with blue paint, and then--I poured a bottle of water on it..OMG THE MESS!!!I should have stuck it in the shower...where it had been two other times...LOL. It worked when I ragged off the water, and blue paint. It worked when I took a deep breath, and mixed colors to bring a little bit of the brightness back, and lastly--it worked when I covered this HUGE 17 1/2 X 36 inches--in beeswax, and ironed it off. The wax brought it deepness, the muted colors now in perfect harmony with each other....
You have seen this painting before:

I had purchased this at an estate sale--the canvas was big, and tight, excellent condition, so I refurbished it.

OMG!! I love beeswax. I didn't think that I was doing something right, so I watched a tutorial on Youtube about it, and it was almost like what I was doing, except I wasn't ironing it after I had put it on to take off the excess.

Now, I am moving to a darker, more golden brown beeswax to see what it'll do. I actually bought real beeswax from a real bee-keeper, not from Micheals or somewhere, and I wasn't sure what would happen.

Yes, it's messy--but it's easy, and smells like heaven on earth..I have done several of my older pieces, and it just adds a depth and richness to it......****sigh...

MY "SECRET" JOURNAL

Tuesday, November 11, 2008 Edit This 6 Comments »
Ok--I admit--I have been holding out on you all! I have a "secret journal"--you rarely get to see that I actually WRITE in a journal, but I do. I keep list, things I want to remember, goals, things that I am grateful for--(which I try to write at least one thing a day that I am grateful for), and all the other stuff in my life. Now, I have decided to track Obama's term in it, and mark the changes, or the things that don't change, and ways that it effects (or affects--never can get those two words straight) my life. It may be brimming with changing goodness, or have nothing in it at all...who knows at this point?

It was drawn to my attention yesterday, that I have just a few weeks to ready myself for a major art show here in Huntsville--I don't know what I was thinking when I talked to the woman the first time...I thought I would be trying to get in the 2010 show, but alas, it's the 2009 show. LOL..SEE, I need a journal of things to remind me!! I don't know if they will jury me in or not, but we'll see. I have got to get my ducks in a row that's for sure!

Yesterday, I sent in my article/tutorial for the newest PORTALS ZINE that is coming out in DEC. I did something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from my "norm", and it has to do with journaling. That's all I can say. It was a lot of fun, and will take your journaling to a different level, so hop over there and check it out. (You can pre-order it HERE).Thank you Heather and
Joleen for asking me to be a part of this exciting edition!!

Also, There are 2 more publications that I will be in VERY SOON...but those are still secret, so I can't tell you any more...heheheh.

Time to get in the art room, and make some art!

Arkie Baker was a bully, even in grade school; Wonnie Robbins was his chief target. Through grade school, high school, and into the steaming jungles of Southeast Asia--their hatred of each other grew and grew until it was ready to explode. Wonnie had been beaten so many times by Arkie, that he planned to kill him. However, Wonnie's plans seldom went as he wanted them to go. This tale takes a long wild ride, with more twists and turns than the Norfolk Southern Railway that winds its way through this small southern town. Be amazed and spellbound as you look into the thoughts of these two characters, in the final days before the dramatic and surprising conclusion.

THE NAMES HAVE BEEN CHANGED TO PROTECT THE INNOCENT...lol

Thursday, November 06, 2008 Edit This 6 Comments »
Ok..I have just laughed so hard that I might consider getting DEPENDs undergarments--and I have to share--even though Nature Boy told me not to do it. But, due to the offensive nature of what I am about to tell you--I have to change the names to protect the innocent. I will be ME though...heheheh..Nature Boy will be called The Hub, and Petey...well, for this story..we'll call him "HUMPY"....(ahhh..do you see where this is gonna go???LOL)...

Let me describe the Hub to you first...he's a tall man, thin of build, and long of leg. He's quiet, kicked back, doesn't say a cuss word EVER (have NEVER heard him utter one)...and he's somewhat reserved. (UNLIKE HIS WIFE!!!!) The second character in my story is a large MALE dog, about the size of a small German Shepherd, frisky, playful and VERY virginal...LOL LOL...

The story begins with me going outside to smoke (nag, nag, nag--I KNOW it's bad)..and The Hub coming outside to stand and talk with me. I pet Humpy, and The Hub pets Humpy, and we start to talk...Humpy starts jumping up on The Hub."Pet me, Pet me.." he's thinking...so, the Hub starts petting Humpy (Petey the Wonderdog)...Now, before I go any further, let's just say these two characters are not the brightest crayons in the box..(this is proven daily---hehehehe)...All of a sudden--HUMPY has the Hub's leg in a death grip, and is well.....YOU KNOW.....and The Hub looks down, and realizes what's going on, and screams (sounding much like a little girl)...and throws his leg outward, but HUMPY has the doggie death grip on it..and he keeps thinking it's a female dog.....So, here's this quiet, reserved man--with a wild, horny dog attached to his leg..and he's hopping around, trying to get the dog off of him...LOL LOL..I started laughing, almost inhaling the entire lit ciggie down my throat...and Humpy is having the time of his life...LOL LOL....FINALLY, The Hub gets Humpy off of his leg..(I think I heard him utter a cuss word..heheheh)..but, I am sure that Humpy will never look at my husband the same way again....LOL LOL.

hehehehhe...gotta close this before The Hub comes in here and reads it...***snicker

SIGH..A LETTER TO "ANONYMOUS"

Wednesday, November 05, 2008 Edit This 14 Comments »
I have waited all day to post. This morning, I was left a nasty comment about black people on my "WOOHOOO" post below (I immediately removed it), and I have thought and thought about . First, I know who wrote it (or have a 99% certainty of it.) Second--if you are going to say something to someone, at least have the balls not to hide behind an anonymous post. (Though I figure you learned this from your daddy, as he dressed for his weekly KKK meetings.) Third--please get on your knees and pray to God that he removes such ignorant hatred from your heart. You aren't hurting me, you aren't hurting this country, and you certainly aren't hurting our newest President. You are only hurting yourself by carrying around this hatred. Hate someone that has abused their kids, or murdered an innocent person, or has beat their wife to the point that she is hospitalized. Don't hate just because of skin color, or religious preference, or because they are different than you are. I can tell you from experience--hatred that is carried around inside of you will only make you hate yourself. It will eat you up, slowly making your worse hell the inside of your own brain. It will make you ugly (please look in the mirror--cause it's working on you), and it will make you evil.

This isn't a political blog. It's an art blog. I do art, and pretty much leave everyone alone. Don't come here and mar it with your backwoods ignorance. Let go of it--maybe then you will be able to produce beautiful art, instead of struggling to churn out the garbage that you put out 6 times a year.

I am happy that things turned out like they did. I am not prejudice, unless it is against evil people. I do not care what color your skin is--only what size heart and soul you have. I would not have cared if Obama was green with purple and pink polka dots ---if he can help unite this country, and help turn this mess around, and LEAD us back to the place that we should be as Americans-- he got my vote.

So Anonymous, the next time you have something to say to me--you can say it under your real name, or email me (I promise that I won't contact your ISP, and say that you are stalking me). Don't hide behind some cowardice cloak of anonymity. Trust me--anything you say to me, cannot make me feel any more of the pity, and distaste that I already feel for you.

AS I WALK ALONG (WORK IN PROGRESS) and MILK CAP FREEBIE

Tuesday, November 04, 2008 Edit This 5 Comments »

Thank Goodness this weekend is over. I decided not to do the Artist Market, and my class was cancelled, so it all turned out good, and we sold antiques and collectibles on our town square. We sold on Saturday and Sunday, and then because it's the last time of the season, we decided to sell on Monday also. (We always have that option, but never, hardly ever do Mondays)..I can see why...we sat out there, and made $4...LOL...I spent $16 on buying us lunch, so it actually cost me $12 to set up on Monday. We won't be doing that again!! But, all in all it was a good weekend, and it tickled me pink to sell some of my work out there! (They are a hard crowd--rednecks from hell looking at art..LOL).

I actually got a lot of painting done this weekend also. This is one that is a work in progress, and got the bottom two layers done on about 8 more. So, every night I came home, and painted, and went without sleep, and am totally exhausted today (even after 8 hours sleep last night). I also got a journal page almost completed, and hopefully, I can get some of those done today.
I have scanned some old, vintage milk caps for you all. I was searching for journal bits last night, and ran into some of the 30 million that I have of them, and thought you might like some for your art.
I hope you all go vote today--I don't care which candidate you vote for, just go out there, and make your vote count. I don't really think that it matters who wins, the U.S. has some major problems, and it isn't going to get better because of one person. I have enjoyed this heated election year though. Anyway..I am tired of it all, and ready for something different on the TV!
OH!! I watched Sex in the City (FINALLY!) the other night, and I was SO DISSAPOINTED!! That was SO WRONG, what they did to Carrie and Mr. Big!! I wanted them to have a big, fairy tale wedding, and marital bliss from the beginning..lol..
Ok..that's about it. Have a Happy, Artful Day...

This weekend has been non-stop, and it's not over yet. We decided to sell tomorrow too, to see if we could sell more of my art--I SOLD 3 PIECES TODAY!!! I was SO excited!!! The wonderful woman also wanted to take my class, so that's another student!! Well, I have to be up in about 4 hours--this is the first piece of Art Every Day Month (I am already a day behind, but have another painting done, just don't have time tonight to try and photograph it.)...Ok..got to get to bed!!
