I NEED AN HONEST OPINION!! TWO NEW PIECES!

Good Morning!! I need your opinion (an honest one!)..because I don't want to go any further without positive or negative feedback. The top piece is painted on a small clipboard, and I need your opinion of it. Not WHAT is painted, but the CLIPBOARD factor. I thought I would do these clipboards with little paintings on them, and sell them for $10 at the Market on Sundays..but, do you think that people will like them. My idea is that they are actually hung instead of used as clipboards. Bad idea or Good idea??? Please let me know--no matter what you say--you won't hurt my feelings!! I promise!! The words on this one say "The grave is so deep and so concluding. He was my first friend, and I could not stop my tears."
The bottom one is acrylics on wood.
This weekend was the end of a period in my life--I will no longer be selling antiques and collectibles on our town square once a month-and I certainly won't be taking my art there to sell. (Not to be confused with the Sunday Art Market). On Saturday, we sat up on our town square for their monthly trade day, got there at 5am, stayed until 3pm, and I made a little less than $100..and all of that was on dominoes. (GOD BLESS THOSE LITTLE DOMINOES!!) Speaking of dominoes--I HAVE to make some TODAY. I am down to about 10 of them..so sometime in the next 4 days, I have to whip up about 100 or more of them..LOL.. good thing that I am not drowning in things "that need to be done"..or I'd be in trouble..heheheh. Yeah right...I AM DROWNING!! Someone throw me a life jacket here!! I have to finish TWO- 4 foot paintings, do a couple of dolls, make some more paintings, I am DROWNINGGGGGGGGGGG...LOL..And I have NEVER been HAPPIER in my whole life!!! I have hardly anything left TO sell, and it just feeds me. Thank you Lord!
Have a Happy day!!

I like the clipboard idea. Why not make up a few as a test, to see if they sell? Don't do a boatload at first.....that's my thought, anyway. For what it's worth! (Not much....)

Suzan,

Great idea! The only thing I would say is that they should be 20.00! I think you would still sell them and people might not think "Why so cheap?"

So glad to see you are selling out - it gives others some hope that we can make it in this art world- lol

I actually really like the clipboard idea, and would purchase one or two or three or..... They would be wonderful to hang, but would be fun to use too. I love artful things to use.

Great idea Suzan.

Painted clipboards sold pretty well awhile back on Ebay. I actually sold 2-3 of them myself.
Your clipboard is fab!
Another way to display them is to paint a design in the lower corners and attach a smaller pad of paper on the clip. This way it serves as functional art for people's 'to do' lists or shopping lists.
Best of luck with your sales and I agree, $10 is too little. I'd go at least 15?

OK, well I'm the sole dissenting voice on this, I really don't see the point to a clipboard unless it's to use it as a clipboard. As an object on my wall, not so much, even with the cool painting.

Obviously I'm the only one though, so try some, if you make just a few and they sell well, you can always make more.

I like the clipboard idea but shy away from anything sad or dark. I like happy...just me. 10.00 does seem too low a price but it sounds like you have sold alot so you know your traffic. You are quiting the flea market because of lack of time? or lack of sales? Your art is always inspiring Susan.

The clipboard idea is GENIUS. And one I'm going to have to steal. I mean borrow. LOL It would be super cute to clip something in the clip too. LOVE it, Suzan!

I love the clip board idea - they would work great as art by themselves, and also a person could clip their child's artwork (always changing) with it for even more variety! What a great idea!! I am with other comments on at least $15.00 for small ones and $20 to $25 for larger clipboards...

the clipboard is a good idea, go you!
anything flat enough to paint on is good ;)
the clip part makes for a perfect hanger too.
my only thought would be the silver of the clip is just plain. you could add some type of assemblage to it, wire, rusted metal, a wing or crown shape. glue on some letters or old bottle caps.

I love the idea and have made "altered" clipboards in the past. When I am done painting them I cover the whole clip board in acrylic gloss to keep it hardy. I have a smaller one that I keep my weekly menu on and a large one at work.... Go for it, I think it will be a hit.

I think the clipboard piece works and sells well - it´s something different and that´s always a good thing. Besides, I really like both paintings! It´s nice to hear that your art sells - you deserve it!

Susan..to be really honest...I am not sure about the clipboard thing. but then again I never use clipboards.
From my point of view? I would like to see something altered on the clip that relates to the painting. Please do not be angry for me saying this, just trying to be as honest as I can!
Hope you will ever talk to me again..lol..
Andrea.

I think its a terrific idea. what a unique art piece to hang on a wall!!
Great going.
I agree with others, though,......do some test ones first before making too many.

I think the clipboard is a great idea and have seen then sell quite well at a local monthly art fest we have (yours are WAY better though). I do think you should sell them for $20-$30 though -- $10 is way too little. The ones in my area sold for $18-$22 and again, were nowhere near as lovely or artful as yours.

I think if you want people to view them as art rather than clipboard you should alter the clip too. Weather it's just a coat of paint or some ribbons/ wire or a much more full-on change is up to you, but I think it needs something.

I love them both actually! I would not want to use the clipboard as a funtional piece because your painting would be covered up. I would use it as an art piece only. The little tag thing that was mentioned is a good idea to solve that problem! That is just me though, I'd use it as strictly an art piece, and an adorable one at that!

Hi Susan, I just love your art and your blog and you make me laugh...I loved the Lori tutitorial. I love the idea of the clipboards. I say go for it. The funny thing is...we just never know if we are gonna come up with "the next best thing". I know I am always thinking this...and so far...no such luck! Your dominos were certainly your "next best thing"!! What a wonderful idea that was and still is! Good luck with the clipboards--I will watch out on your blog and maybe you can give an update. And if I need a smile and a giggle--I will come over for a blot visit.

Hi Suzan I lurk around in your blog and stalk you art works...Great work too. I make clipboards and I do love the image you chose for yours. I add some hooks at the bottom for hanging earing or nice beady necklaces. I also like to add beads and ribbons to the top where the clip is. A ribbon across that does not obscure all the image but sort of adds a floor frame to it can be used to hang little notes or cards from...clip on a couple of coloured mini clips or mini pegs to the ribbon. The ribbon is attached at the back or if you can put an eyelet hole through the board and tie a knot so it wont slip. Hope you can follow my drift here. lol but yep sell them and for at least $15/$20. These days I find that sometimes you cant sell art just for arts sake. Have the edge and make it more multi purposed, but not obscuring the art work itself. A little trinket hung off the middle hook looks great and have one with beads and jewelery hanging off it to give the buyers a good look at its purpose. smiles Michelle

Suzan, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the clipboard.... I think at that price (WAY too low) I'd love to use it as functional art. I'm so happy you are busy and successful with your art... there is NO better reward than having someone else appreciate and be moved by your work...

Renee :)

That is very clever. I may be borrowing that idea. It hangs, you can add fibers, wire, beads, etc... Thanks for the inspiration. The price should be between 15 and 20, though. Good luck.

I think your idea is very clever, and I do like it! Every once in awhile I go back to altered clipboards and paint them in between projects, alter them etc. One thing I have noticed about them is they can warp with certain paints so you may want to ensure you lay on a nice layer of gesso to prime the board first prior to painting then seal well with a top coat. Definitely go higher then 10.00 though! Have fun!

i love them. i like the clip board idea and i would for sure buy them. probably more than one and i'd buy them for gifts! i love little things like that. but i think it would be cool to have one to actually use too! and i love the little man in the second painting. he's cute, no hair and all.
so make a few clipboards and sell at the market coming up. i think they would do well, especially around Christmas. I think your price is right on. You could always increase later, but in these economic times, it's nice for people to be able to buy a little something to make them happy and even though they would be well worth more for your artist talent, sometimes not everyone can spend more. that way, people of all walks of life and incomes can afford a little piece of art.

ok, so i was not awake when i wrote! lol, i said the second one was a little man......duh, it's little people, i like them! they have a certain cuteness to them! if there is such a thing!
